With Transformers: Rise of the Beasts being set in 1994 New York City, the film’s production had to put in some extra legwork to make the world’s most iconic city look the way it did 30 years ago.

In the below exclusive video, some of the key members of the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts production team — such as director Steven Caple Jr., visual effects supervisor Gary Brozenich, and supervising art director Michele Laliberte — breakdown how they brought a bygone version of the City That Never Sleeps back to life.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will arrive on Digital on Tuesday, July 11, and 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray™, and DVD on October 10th. The clip in this article will also be available in the special features. The film is a sequel to the Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena-starring film Bumblebee, which hit movie theaters back in 2018.

In addition to Anthony Ramos (Hamilton, A Star Is Born) and Dominique Fishback (Judas and the Black Messiah, Swam) in the lead live-action roles, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts also features voice work from the likes of Ron Perlman, Peter Dinklage, Pete Davidson, Michelle Yeoh, Liza Koshy, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Cristo Fernández, Tongayi Chirisa, Colman Domingo, Peter Cullen, John DiMaggio, and David Sobolov.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts was directed by Steven Caple Jr., director of films such as 2016’s The Land and 2018’s Creed II. Caple has also helmed two episodes of the sitcom Grown-ish and one episode of the docuseries Rapture.
