MEATER/Emily Prymula
My wife is impressive on so many levels: she has a master’s degree, she can drive stick, and she once helped raise an orphaned alligator on her family farm (that’s way too long a story to tell here). This sounds like an antiquated compliment, but she’s also an unbelievable cook. But, there’s a good reason for that: she went to culinary school for two years. It’s always a safe bet to surprise her with a fun “kitchen toy,” which is why it was a no-brainer to get her a MEATER Pro thermometer this past holiday season.
Now, granted, she’s not someone who usually needs extra gadgets in the kitchen to pull off an unbelievable meal. But when you’re cooking something as complicated as prime rib or porchetta (seen above before I devoured it), you don’t want to take a chance that you’ve over- or undercooked the meat, especially when it’s the centerpiece of a holiday meal. Getting a notification to your phone from the MEATER app that your dish is at the exact temperature that it needs to be to take it out is incredible peace of mind.
How did our holiday meals turn out? Our Thanksgiving porchetta (my father-in-law doesn’t care for turkey) came out crispy on the outside and fatty/juicy on the inside. Our Christmas prime rib was gloriously bloody as it should be. Don’t come to me with anything above medium rare on a prime rib. EVER. The bloodier, the better.
MEATER Pro Thermometer (available in Honey and Walnut colors)
Gone are the days of having to sit obsessively in front of the oven trying to nail the cooking time. Gone are the obsessive moments where you carve off a piece to check if the inside is raw. Whether it’s in the oven, the fryer, or in the boiling pot, MEATER thermometers can withstand temperatures up to 1000°F and will send notifications when your dish reaches the desired temperature.
