Penelope Cruz being named Esquire’s Sexiest Woman Alive for 2014 is one thing if nothing else: a bit of a surprise.
Not that Penelope Cruz isn’t one of the hottest women in the world, but really, when was the last time you even thought of Penelope Cruz? The last time I thought of her was because she directed one of the hottest lingerie videos ever for Agent Provocateur starring Irina Shayk (and not herself) in the fall of 2013 and it’s not like she’s been in a ton of movies lately.
Of course this isn’t the first honor Penelope Cruz has taken home in the last 12 months as she was also voted the Hottest Celebrity Body by Fitness magazine back in December of 2013 (which, in all honesty, also had me scratching my head a bit).
The Esquire article does rightfully point out, “She is impossibly beautiful. When she walks into a room, men start walking into furniture.” Of that I have no doubt, but still it’s a choice I didn’t see coming. Then again previous winners Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis and about 90% of our other crushes have been pregnant lately, so the field was narrowed a bit.
All that aside, I for one, applaud Esquire for thinking outside the box when making Penelope Cruz their selection for Sexiest Woman Alive (especially after seeing the hot photo shoot they did with her – long overdue). Plus, I don’t think I am alone in being tired of seeing the same women being thrust into our faces week after week and this is a nice change and a pretty well-deserving honor as well. So what do you think?
