Freshman defender Adam Kissayi has decided to enter the transfer portal after enrolling at Clemson this past January. The 6-foot-8 edge rusher made his decision clear shortly after the Tigers wrapped up spring practice.

The decision is the latest in what’s been a wild portal season to this point as we’re now seeing players leave programs before playing a snap on the field.

It’s been a bit of a theme this cycle, made popular by five-star Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor. The big man, who played his freshman season with the Crimson Tide, decided to transfer after Nick Saban’s retirement.

But, after just a few months back home at Iowa, he opted to return to his former program.

Others, even outside of college football, are now taking that same route. Look no further than women’s basketball star Haley Cavinder’s recent return to Miami following a brief transfer to TCU.

Adam Kissayi is in a bit different situation, though.

He’s not returning to a prior program. Clemson was his first choice!

The defensive end enrolled at the university in January, completed spring practice, and even suited up for the Tigers’ recent Spring Game.

But despite recording a tackle in that Orange & White contest, he’s now hoping to find a new home.

Clemson is Adam Kissayi’s stepdad’s favorite team.

In an interview following his initial signing, he noted the connection to the Tigers.

“When I first got into football, my stepdad had been a Clemson fan,” he said. “That’s basically when I first started watching. I remember they were on a really good win streak, and a few years had won the national championship.

“I was just like, ‘I want to do that one day.’ I made it my goal to grind, grind, grind, and try to make it there.”

While he did, in fact, achieve that goal, the dream has been short-lived. The reasoning behind that decision isn’t known.

Could it revolve around his spot on the depth chart? Is he looking to return to his home state of Florida?

We should find out where he plans to continue (or begin, to some extent) his college career soon. The transfer portal continues to create these unusual scenarios!
