Adrian Wojnarowski was first to break the news that college basketball coach Dusty May is leaving FAU for Michigan. ESPN’s senior NBA insider is getting called out for how he approached the report.

And it appears as though the 55-year-old cannot handle the heat!

Woj, as he is best known, rarely dabbles in college hoops— or any sport/league that is not professional basketball. It was a surprise to see his name attached to the Wolverines’ job news, especially considering all of the chatter that preceded the announcement.

May’s name was attached to the Louisville opening for a few weeks. That chatter got even louder after his team lost to Northwestern in the First Round of March Madness on Friday. All signs pointed toward the Owls’ head coach leaving Boca Raton to lead the Cardinals in Kentucky.

And then Woj dropped the bomb, as he is known to do.

In response to his own report, Wojnarowski gave the reasons for the move. He received the information on why Dusty May took the job in Ann Arbor from “sources.”

May became swept away with the alumni network and its fierce loyalty to the university and athletics, sources said. His belief is that that will help transcend some of the inherently transactional nature of the modern NIL/transfer portal era in recruiting and player retention.

The phrasing of his post is rather formal and articulate.

It reads as though Woj is carrying water and that could very well be exactly what happened. May’s agent may have offered the scoop with an expectation that his secondary statement be attached.

That often happens in the breaking news industry and it certainly seems like that is what happened here. Not a big deal at all. Not uncommon.

Unfortunately, Woj is apparently Charmin soft and could not handle being called out.

@RedditCFB responded to his follow-up post on X to say the quiet part out loud. That did not go over well with the ESPN insider and he immediately blocked the account.

Regardless of whether Adrian Wojnarowski regurgitated May’s agent’s words or not, to block an account for simply stating what likely happened is a weak move. Especially if that is actually what happened…
