The first month on the job has not been easy for now Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer.

DeBoer lost multiple players to the transfer portal. He failed to land multiple transfer portal targets. And the Tide has lost multiple big-name recruits to SEC rivals.

But it could be about to get much, much worse.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, who followed DeBoer from Washington, could soon return to the Pacific Northwest as the offensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks.

“Per a league source, Grubb could be joining new coach Mike MacDonald as offensive coordinator of the Seahawks. While it’s not finalized, Grubb is definitely under consideration for the job,” Florio writes.

Grubb, 47, worked with DeBoer at Fresno State before following him to Washington in 2022.

MacDonald, meanwhile, was named the Seahawks head coach earlier this week after the team moved on from long-time head coach Pete Carroll following the 2023 NFL season.

Ryan Grubb Was One Of Top Offensive Coordinators In College Football In 2023

Grubb led one of the top offenses in the countries with the Huskies in 2023.

They ranked eighth in the nation in yards per play at 7.04 and 13th in scoring offense with 36.0 points per game.

He was also one of the top candidates for the head coaching job after DeBoer left. But Washington ultimately opted to go in a different direction, landing former Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch.

“Though I wanted to be, I will not be the next head coach at the University of Washington,” Grubb said on social media. “With tears in my eyes, I know my last day in Husky Stadium has come.”

Grubb isn’t the only candidate for the position, however. Reports claim that Baltimore Ravens quarterback coach Tee Martin could well follow MacDonald from Baltimore to Seattle.

If he does, it would be a massive couple for DeBoer and Alabama as it looks to steady the ship.
