Minnesota Timberwolves’ wing Anthony Edwards is quickly becoming of the NBA’s biggest stars.

But did you know that he also has a half-brother who is a rising star in his own right, albeit in a far different field?

Edwards shares the same father as Rajah Caruth, a 21-year-old rising star in the NASCAR Truck Series.

Caruth is in just his second full-time season in the Truck Series and won his first race earlier this season. He races for Spire Motorsports but with sponsorship from legendary NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick.

Hendrick Motorsports is one of the most successful teams in NASCAR history, boasting Hall of Fame drivers such as Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson.

Caruth, who learned how to race using an iRacing simulator, is the lone black driver in the NASCAR Truck Series and is a mentee of NASCAR Cup Series star Bubba Wallace. Wallace is the lone black driver in the Cup Series and became the first black driver since Wendell Scott in 1964 to win in the series.

“What a cool moment to see,” Wallace said after Caruth’s Truck Series win earlier this season. “I called him, I said out of the seven years I’ve been in the Cup, this was the first time I didn’t bring my bus out to Vegas. So I was staying on the strip, and I wasn’t here to watch. So, that’s on me, I could have drove over here. His truck was fast, and so he had a good shot. But I sent him a couple of notes before the race and he executed to a tee.”

Caruth and Edwards don’t often talk about their relationship.

Roger Caruth, their father, was not part of Edwards’s life.

But it’s a remarkable connection between two athletes who appear on the path to superstardom in two very different sports.
