The former Oakland A’s announced this week that they will begin taking ticket deposits for their stadium in Las Vegas that won’t open until at least the year 2028. The news was met with mixed reactions from baseball fans.

“Starting Friday, March 7, A’s fans will have the opportunity to secure priority access to purchase season tickets at the team’s ballpark in Las Vegas for just $19.01,” the team wrote in a press release.

“Fans on the A’s priority interest list will receive early access to purchase season tickets,” the press release continued, repeating itself.

In case that wasn’t clear, the press release goes on to state, “Current A’s season ticket members, Aviators season ticket holders, and Clark County residents who secure their spot on the priority access list will receive purchase priority ahead of the general fan.”

Now do you understand? There is only one way to get priority for giving the A’s your money for a stadium that hasn’t even broken ground yet.

“The A’s plan to break ground on their new ballpark on the Tropicana site in Q2 of this year,” the announcement explained, adding that the $19.01 amount honors the founding year of the Athletics franchise in 1901.”

Then, in a sentence that has absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the press release, the A’s pointed out that they “are proud to support and invest in local youth baseball and softball programs across Southern Nevada.”

Just ignore the fact that, as Front Office Sports reports, the A’s still haven’t satisfied unmet parking requirements at the planned $1.75 billion baseball stadium, how they will address several key elements missing in stadium renderings, and whether A’s owner John Fisher will bring on additional investors to help cover private-sector building costs.

In the meantime, the A’s will play their first home game at Sutter Health Park on March 31. Assuming they haven’t completely alienated the City of Sacramento by then.
