The Indianapolis Colts have found their quarterback of the immediate future.

And it’s not the name that many were expecting to hear when the day began.

Baker Mayfield recently requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns following the team’s interest in QB Deshaun Watson. Mayfield did his best to burn bridges within the organization as he and Cleveland management never saw eye to eye this offseason.

In a period of days, Mayfield penned a goodbye letter to fans, saw his employer refer to him a child, and had teammates mocking him on social media.

The Browns appeared to backtrack briefly only to sign Watson a day later. That deal pretty much ended Mayfield’s time in Cleveland.

Mayfield then spoke to the organization about a trade, naming the Colts as being the team he’d most like to play for in 2022.

So, when Indy was in the market for a quarterback, it seemed to be an easy match.

Instead, the Colts turned to 37-year-old Matt Ryan.

With Mayfield getting passed over yet again, social media is not being kind to the former first round pick.

Fans React To Baker Mayfield News

With Baker Mayfield being passed over by the team he requested to be traded to, fans are taking to social media to post their reactions.

Making things a bit worse is the fact that Matt Ryan is certainly on the back side of his career. Just a few years from 40, retirement can’t be far away.

When considering that Mayfield is still relatively young, it has to make the sting hurt just a bit more. But the Colts are taking a “win now” approach and they think that Ryan is the best option to do so.

Mayfield will have to wait for another suitor before finding a home for the 2022 season.
