Black bear next to golf cart
Most golf courses are home to a wide variety of wildlife, but you typically don’t have to worry about those animals having an impact on your round. However, that was not the case with a club in Canada where a black bear raided a cart and made off with the bag of clubs it ripped from the back.
One of my favorite conspiracy theories is the assertion that you won’t spot any birds, squirrels, or any other kinds of wild animals roaming the hallowed grounds of Augusta National during The Masters. It’s very hard to imagine the club has actually managed to purge them, but if that is indeed the case, it would probably be the only course on the planet that’s not home to any forms of fauna.
Animals are a common sight on golf courses to the point where the rules of the game account for the impact they may have on a round, including clauses concerning burrows and holes they’ve dug, situations where they move or pick up your ball, and “dangerous” creatures including (but not limited to) snakes, bees, alligators, fire ants, and bears.
All of the animals on that list usually don’t go out of their way to bother people, but the last one did manage to cause some trouble at a course in British Columbia.

Canada is home to an estimated 400,000 bears of the brown, black, and polar variety, and none of its provinces boasts more of them than British Columbia.
The majority of those mammals are black bears that are typically content to mind their own business, but they are also known for being opportunists who will not think twice about trespassing or rifling through personal property in search of a meal.
That was seemingly the case at Golden Eagle Golf Club in Pitt Meadows, B.C., a course that posted a video of a couple of bear cubs wrestling while their mother was grazing on the grass last month.
That had nothing on a couple of clips that were captured there over the weekend, as a golfer at Golden Eagle saw his round take an unexpected turn courtesy of a black bear that tore his bag from the back of his cart before absconding with his clubs.
Someone on an adjacent hole captured the aftermath of the heist (along with a second bear in the vicinity), and luckily for the victim, it dropped the bag before fully fleeing the scene.

This isn’t the first time a bear has managed to cause an issue at Golden Eagle. They’re common to the point where the course advises players to keep an eye out, and one treated greenskeepers to a headache after ripping a cup out of a green while grabbing a flagstick in 2020.
