The Big3 basketball league parted ways with social media influencer and courtside reporter Rachel DeMita this week. According to reports, the league took umbrage when DeMita tweeted about Caitlin Clark highlights on Saturday while working in her courtside correspondent role.

The incident in question occurred as Clark made her return from injury and put up 32 points, nine assists and eight rebounds to lead the Indiana Fever to a win over the previously undefeated New York Liberty. DeMita, who was covering a Big3 game on CBS at the time, shared a video of Clark making a deep 3-pointer with the caption “for those who questioned the hype.”

Caitlin Clark Gave The Big3 League The Cold Shoulder Coming Out Of College

There may well be more to the story as well. The Big3 league offered Clark a massive contract prior to her joining the WNBA. She rejected the deal and made it clear she had no interest in playing in the league.

League founder and CEO Ice Cube later told Dan Patrick details of the deal they had on the table for Clark.

“It was two years, $5 million a year,” he said. “And plus, we were going to do cool stuff with merch and there was even talk about a percentage in team ownership.

“We believe her coming into the BIG3 would be such a big deal that all boats would rise and the league would benefit from the attention,” he continued

But Clark turned it all down. Now, whether or not there’s sour grapes within the league over Clark’s rejection is something only league executives can say. But it may well have played into their decision to part ways with DeMita, who has over one million followers on Instagram, and 362,000 YouTube subscribers.
