Actor Bradley Cooper is one of the most famous film stars on the face of the planet.

So when he speaks, people usually stop to listen.

This time, however, Cooper may wish he had kept his mouth shut after making a bizarre comment about his relationship with his 6-year-old daughter Lea.

Cooper and ex-partner Irina Shayk had a daughter together in 2017. They then separated in 2019, with Shayk recently dating Tom Brady and Cooper dating Gigi Hadid.

The two have maintained an amicable relationship, however, and co-parent their daughter.

In a recent episode of “Armchair Expert” podcast with Dax Shepard, however, the 49-year-old actor says he wasn’t always so sure about the whole being a father deal.

“The first eight months — I don’t even know if I really love the kid,” Cooper said. “It’s dope. It’s cool. I’m watching this thing morph.”

“That’s my experience,” he continued. “Fascinated by it. Loved taking care of it. But would I die if someone came in with a gun?”

Though eventually, things changed.

“And then all of a sudden, it’s like no question,” Cooper added.

That drew plenty of criticism from fans wondering why Cooper would say such a thing about his child.

However, Cooper went on to say that his daughter may well have saved his life.

“I’m not sure I’d be alive if I wasn’t a dad,” he said. “I just needed someone to say, like, ‘We’re gonna drop this massive anchor.”

“I’m like, ‘Why? We’re speeding! I just got an upgrade on the boat, and I know where the wind’s coming in.’ They’re like, ‘No, no, no, there’s a tsunami coming in, and you need an anchor and we’re gonna drop it.’

“Because this is gonna dictate everything you do from now on. Your DNA is going to tell you that there’s something more important than you.”

Cooper’s sentiments may not actually be all that uncommon. The National Institute of Health states that 8-10 percent of men suffer from post-partum depression.

But his phrasing could use a little bit of work, and it’s still a pretty wild thing to say out loud about your own child.
