Chargers Coach Brandon Staley Breaks Football Twitter With Mind-Numbing Late Game Decision

The Los Angeles Chargers picked up a huge victory in a must-win early season game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

But it wasn’t as easy as it should have been.

And Chargers coach Brandon Staley was a large part of why that was the case.

Los Angeles entered the game extremely shorthanded, with injuries to stars such as Austin Ekeler, Mike Williams, Joey Bosa and Derwin James.

But a strong first half from star quarterback Justin Herbert saw the Chargers take a 24-7 lead into the half.

Out of the half, however, the Raiders and backup quarterback Aidan O’Connell, making his first career start, began to chip away.

A Daniel Carlson field goal made it 24-10 after three quarters. Then Josh Jacobs cut the lead to 24-17 with just under four minutes remaining in the contest.

Las Vegas then kicked the ball back to LA in hopes of a quick stop. They appeared to have that stop after three plays and under 30 seconds.

But then Staley went Staley.

From the Chargers’ own 34-yard line, Staley decided to go for it on fourth-and-1 rather than kick the ball away. They didn’t get it.

Herbert was stuffed on a quarterback sneak and Las Vegas took over with great field position looking to tie the game.

Thankfully for LA, O’Connell then threw an interception to seal the victory for the Chargers. But fans could believe that Staley yet again got burned trying to be ultra aggressive.

Second week in a row where the Chargers talent carried Brandon Staley despite his awful game management,” one fan wrote.

Brandon Staley escaping his own incompetence yet again? Shocking,” said another.

We here at BroBible dot com are fully in support of aggressive coaching. Coaching not to lose usually results in losses.

But come on, bud, there needs to be some sort of nuance here.
