San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy is prepping for his first Super Bowl appearance as an NFL starter. As part of the lead-up to the matchup, the passer sat down with the media to discuss his outlook ahead of what will be the biggest game thus far in his young career.

Unfortunately, Purdy had to deal with some off-topic inquiries, one of which had no inkling of a connection to his Super Bowl preparations.

Rather, it was a comparison to Lee Harvey Oswald.

Yes, the man arrested for the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963.

For those in need of a brief history lesson, Oswald was a former US Marine who took aim at JFK from the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository on a somber November day in in downtown Dallas.

Not exactly the character one would prefer to be compared to in any way, shape, or form – particularly not the signal caller of one of the NFL’s most historic franchises.

This reporter apparently believed Brock Purdy resembled Lee Harvey Oswald and decided to ask him if it was the first time he’s heard the comparison.

Purdy, perplexed by the question, tried to brush it off without being rude. He simply shrugged his shoulders and shook his head, saying he’s never heard the comp before.

There are always a few of these bizarre questions in Super Bowl lead-up, though we might’ve already hit our quota for this season.

Earlier this week, Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback on the other side, was dealt an awkward ask that referenced his father’s recent DUI. He gave a similarly uninterested response.

Hopefully we get to the task at hand soon and the focus reverts back to football.

Mahomes and Purdy will battle it out in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas in what’s set to be a highly entertaining (and expensive) NFL showdown.

Purdy’s 49ers were the cream of the NFC crop, landing the top seed in the playoffs after a 12-5 regular season. He hopes to grab one more win to cap his 2023 season and provide the Niners with their first championship since 1994.

That will be a tough task given the opponent, as Kansas City enters riding a five-game winning steak.

San Francisco is listed as a two-point favorite at the time of this writing.
