One of the best and worst things about the current media landscape is that pretty much anyone can find an outlet to spew any crazy take that they have.

That appears to be what happened on Thursday, when CBS NFL reporter Amy Trask hilariously claimed on her podcast, What The Football with Suzy Schuster and Amy Trask, that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was not as good as the other seven quarterbacks remaining in the NFC Playoffs.

We have four games this week. That means we have eight quarterbacks, I did that math all by myself. Good girl. Four games, eight quarterbacks, seven terrific quarterbacks, and Brock Purdy. Now, Brock Purdy is a good quarterback. Make no mistake about, it everybody be calm. 49er fans, I’m not suggesting Brock’s not a good quarterback. He is. I simply don’t put him in the same category as the other quarterbacks. So I’ll say it again. Eight quarterbacks, seven terrific quarterbacks, and Brock Purdy. What do you like about it? It’s not that I don’t like him. It’s not that I dislike him. He does things very well. He is surrounded by a tremendous, tremendous supporting cast both on offense and defense. He is a good quarterback. I don’t put him in the category of the other seven.

This is some take. In all honesty, I did not think that Brock Purdy should have been considered for MVP this year, even when he was a heavy favorite, due to his elite supporting cast. But, how can someone say that he’s not in the same tier as guys like Green Bay’s Jordan Love, Detroit’s Jared Goff, and Tampa Bay’s Baker Mayfield?

All Purdy has done in the NFL is win games and put up efficient passing numbers. Including the playoffs, the second-year man out of Iowa State is 18-5 as a started with 48 touchdowns and 15 interceptions with a passer rating well over 100.

For much of this year, Brock Purdy was the MVP favorite while distributing the ball to the 49ers’ elite weapons like Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk. While his campaign sputtered after a disastrous performance against the Ravens in Week 16, he still finished with 31 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and led the league in passer rating, QBR, and yards per attempt.

To say that he’s not on the same level as Jordan Love, whom many Packers fans wanted benched midseason, or a journeyman like Baker Mayfield, is pretty ridiculous. Yes, he does have help from an elite supporting cast, great protection up front, and the league’s best play caller in Kyle Shanahan. But, there’s nothing he’s done to suggest he isn’t at least as good as those guys.

Brock Purdy has a chance to prove her wrong, starting this weekend, as the team takes on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round on Sunday.
