Sheryl Swoopes is not happy that Caitlin Clark is on pace to become the all-time leading scorer in women’s college basketball history. She recently stated that she does not believe Iowa’s superstar deserves the title.

However, the basis of her opinion is entirely false. Clark’s boyfriend laughed in her face.

Swoopes, a four-time WNBA champion and three-time MVP, is widely considered one of the 10 greatest players in league history and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Her knowledge of the modern era of the sport is nowhere near as impressive as her career.

She recently joined Gilbert Arenas on the Gil’s Arena podcast. About two hours into their conversation, Swoopes was asked about Clark’s ability to translate to the professional level.

In her opinion, neither the Hawkeyes legend nor Angel Reese will have an easy transition to the WNBA.

That’s fine. Swoopes’ opinion is Swoopes’ opinion.

What she said leading up to that point is where the embarrassment lies.

Caitlin Clark is going to break the scoring record.

Kelsey Plum scored 3,527 points during her four-year career at Washington. Caitlin Clark trails her mark by 65 points with seven regular season games remaining.

Barring unforeseen circumstance, she is going to break Plum’s record in four years at Iowa.

Swoopes is confused. She doesn’t think it is fair that Clark will break Plum’s record in more than four years, even though that is entirely untrue. Her diatribe about the soon-to-be greatest scorer in women’s college basketball history was focused around at least one additional year of eligibility that never happened.

Arenas agreed with Swoopes, but he was going off of her false pretenses.

Clark is currently in the middle of her fourth season with the Hawkeyes. Because of the global pandemic in 2020, she could choose to return for a fifth year of eligibility. That decision has yet to be made.

Either way, Clark is going to score more points than Plum in the same amount of time— four years.

Swoopes lacks knowledge of how long the former has been in college. She is upset that Clark will break Plum’s record during her fifth season when Plum set the record in four.

That would be a completely fair opinion if it was accurate!

Connor McCaffrey, Clark’s boyfriend, responded to the erroneous rant.

Just imagine doing an interview and being this misinformed 😂😂😂😂😂 I don’t even understand what she’s trying to say

Swoopes completely missed the mark here. Perhaps she will soon issue a retraction and an apology for attacking Clark’s record in a completely distorted manner.
