We’ve known for quite some time now that this season would be Mike Krzyzewski’s last as Duke’s head basketball coach. College hoops fans have had a front-row seat to the overtop, sometimes nauseating farewell tour for Coach K, but one former Blue Devil thinks we could have to go through all of this one more time.

Carlos Boozer, a part of Duke’s 2001 national championship team, thinks that if the Blue Devils get eliminated from the NCAA Tournament early then Coach K could come back for one more season.

“If they have to lose on Friday, I can definitely see coach saying, ‘You know what, guys? I need 12 more months. I need one more year,’” Boozer told The Maggie and Perloff Show.

Duke is a two-seed in this year’s tournament and opens up against 15 seed Cal State Fullerton on Friday night. The Blue Devils should have no problem taking care of the Titans, but if they do, Boozer wouldn’t be shocked to see Coach K pull a Tom Brady.

Coach K Not Retiring Would Shock Nobody

Another piece to all of this worth considering is Coach K lost the final home game of his career to rival North Carolina. That loss can’t sit well with him, and it may add more fuel to the fire of Coach K wanting another run at it.

Krzyzewski has been treated like a legitimate rock star all season long. It could be a tough transition going from the spotlight to sitting at home away from the game of basketball.

The 75-year-old has been at Duke for 42 seasons, what’s another year to make it 43?
