Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is drawing serious backlash because no one, including him, showed up to run his youth football camp.

No one connected to the event showed up to the camp, which was scheduled to take place at A.C. Reynolds High School in Asheville. Rather, some parents were informed that their registration had been moved to a youth football camp at Garinger High School in Charlotte, hosted by Xavier Legette. However, the emails reportedly arrived after Legette’s camp date of May 17 had passed, according to Pro Football Talk.

“No one signed up for Legette in a different town, a different player on a different day in a different month,” one parent, Jason Waldrup, told the Asheville Citizen Times. “We all signed up for this camp on this day in Asheville. It’s bizarre that their policy would be we’re changing your whole setup … without asking if that’s what you wanted to do.”

Even worse, Chandler Greer, the coach at A.C. Reynolds High School, only found out about the event via a flyer. His employees made several attempts to contact FlexWork Sports Management – the company that was supposed to organize and run the camp. Nobody responded.

On top of that, a dead period on the NCHSAA calendar prohibited the use of school facilities during the scheduled camp. Greer also emphasized that the school never authorized the football camp.

Communication was either poor or non-existent between the camp and the attendees

According to the Asheville Citizen Times, some parents said they never received any email notification. A representative for Tetairoa McMillan also informed the Citizen Times that the camp had been canceled in February.

A Facebook post by FlexWork Sports Management on Oct. 19, 2025, advertised the July football camp, promising attendees they would “learn skills from Tetairoa” and “get a pic with the star.” McMillan’s rep said FlexWork asked him to attend, but he was unable to make it and did not organize the event.

“We’re really disappointed about the lack of information and communication,” said Alyssa Kowalski, who brought her son to the camp from South Carolina. “You have all these children that are looking forward to seeing these players they look up to. It’s very unfortunate you’re letting their dreams go to waste.”

Another parent said she and her husband took two days off from their jobs to bring their son to the camp and said they “lost over $1,000 in wages by missing work.” They now want a refund “not just for our tickets, for our time.”

FlexWork Sports Management did not respond to multiple requests for comment from the Asheville Citizen Times.
