Chattanooga FC faced off against the Chattanooga Red Wolves on the pitch this week in a historic meeting between the professional clubs. It was the first time the Scenic City foes had ever faced off.
The soccer match didn’t disappoint as penalty kicks were needed to determine a winner. The Red Wolves came out victorious, 5-4, in that extra session after sinking their final shot of the evening.
After 90 minutes of action, the two sides sat locked at 1-1. The score would remain tied after an extra 30-minute period before a shootout ensued.
Chattanooga FC’s first penalty kick was unsuccessful thanks to a save from goaltender Ricardo Jerez. That would prove costly as the Red Wolves went a perfect 5-for-5 to seal the win.
The matchup was played as part of the US Open Cup. More than 12,000 fans showed up to watch the local rivals square off. Tensions were at a high throughout the contest.
After Chattanooga FC scored its first goal of the evening, Daniel Mangorov silenced the crowd in antagonizing fashion, placing his finger to his lips in celebration. Later on in the action, a brief scuffle broke out, forcing officials to hand out a number of yellow cards.
Things came to a head after the final kick landed into the back of the net. A Red Wolves team member attempted to plant a flag at midfield. He was immediately met by Chattanooga FC opposition. Tempers flared. Pushing and shoving followed.

The two sides were eventually separated without further incident. The flag planting effort was thwarted, but the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC still walked away with the win.
That victory keeps them alive in the competition as they’ll advance to the third round of the US Open Cup.
