Update:

On Tuesday the team announced that Kadarius Toney underwent surgery to clean up knee cartilage.

Original Story:

In another setback for the young wide receiver, Kadarius Toney of the Kansas City Chiefs left Sunday’s practice early after “tweaking” his knee, according to the team.

This marks yet another injury concern for Toney, who has struggled with health issues since entering the NFL.

Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid, confirmed the incident, stating that the injury occurred during a special teams drill while Toney was returning a kickoff.

As of now, the severity of the injury remains unclear, and there is no official word on his status for upcoming practices.

Toney’s career in the NFL has been marred by frequent injuries. After being traded to the Chiefs from the New York Giants midway through last season, he played in only two regular-season games due to a hamstring injury.

Despite his limited appearances, Toney managed to make a significant impact during the playoffs, delivering a record punt return and a crucial touchdown catch in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII victory against the Eagles.

However, Toney also made headlines for reasons beyond his on-field performance. He recently faced scrutiny for his social media activities, where he engaged in profanity-laced rants against the Giants front office and fans.

Toney later attributed these outbursts to hacking, though it sparked controversy and raised questions about his conduct off the field.

Despite the challenges, Toney’s undeniable playmaking ability has kept the Chiefs hopeful about his potential contributions in the upcoming season.

Some within the organization reportedly even saw Toney as a potential WR1, but his recurring health issues have been a significant obstacle.
