Fans Can’t Help But See The Irony Of Pete Rose’s Former Team Opening A Sportsbook In Its Stadium

The Cincinnati Reds are opening up a sportsbook in Great American Ball Park. The organization has announced a partnership with Bet MGM on Twitter.

Now, the Reds are not the first team to make this move. In fact, division rival Chicago announced its plan to put a sportsbook in Wrigley Field for the Cubs 2023 season.

A number of notable venues across all sports have done the same as betting continues to grow in the United States.

But most organizations don’t have the history with gambling that the Reds do.

Former player and manager Pete Rose, possibly the franchise’s most popular personality, has been banned from the Hall of Fame after placing bets on baseball during his time in the dugout.

The news of Rose’s gambling put a black eye on the Reds’ organization, and it effectively blackballed the MLB’s all-time hits leader from any post-career recognition.

With that history in mind, many immediately reacted in the same way when hearing about the new addition.

Fans trolled Pete Rose after learning that the Reds were planning on adding a sportsbook to Great American Ball Park.

It seemed that everyone was bringing up the former baseball legend’s name. Some debate his HOF standing now that gambling has become so prominent in baseball.

Most, though, are laughing at his expense.

One fan wrote, “The irony behind this is hysterical,” after seeing reports of the sportsbook being added.

Others are saying that the sportsbook should be named after Rose, and that he should be able to place the first bet.

This fan posted, “Someone needs to do a wellness check on Pete Rose.” He may be unwell after learning the very thing that tarnished his career is now being promoted in his team’s home stadium.

We need Charlie Hustle’s comment on this ASAP.
