Indianapolis Colts, rookie Anthony Richardson will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury.

The 4th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft is set to undergo surgery to fix his ailing right shoulder, the team announced.

Colts owner Jim Irsay posted the following announcement on social media: “After consulting with our medical team, Anthony, and his close advisors, it’s been decided that he’ll need surgery to mend his injured shoulder, effectively ending his season.”

“Anthony’s a true competitor, and we understand how challenging and disappointing this is for him and our squad. We sought out multiple medical opinions, and this appeared to be the best path for his long-term well-being. We’re optimistic about his complete recovery, and there’s no doubt that Anthony has a bright future ahead of him. Meanwhile, I’m loving the fighting spirit of this team, and I’m pumped about the opportunities we have in front of us. It all kicks off this week against Cleveland.”

Richardson sustained his shoulder injury during a run in the team’s win against the Titans on Week 5 and veteran Gardner Minshew stepped in to secure the victory, and he’ll be taking the reins from here on out.

As the dust settles on his rookie season, Richardson wraps things up with a promising stat line of 713 total yards, 7 total touchdowns, and just 1 interception in 4 games. Not too shabby for someone many thought was a raw talent when he entered the league.

Hopefully Richardson can return even better next season after sitting and watching from Minshew.
