One Commanders Cornerback Sounds Very Fed Up With Dan Snyder

In 1999, Dan Snyder became the proud new owner of the NFL franchise that’s now known as the Washington Commanders and proceeded to conduct a masterclass concerning basically everything you shouldn’t do to stay in the good graces of a once-loyal fanbase.

In 2001, Hunter S. Thompson penned a scathing indictment of Snyder that may be one of his most prescient works (which is certainly no small feat) based on what’s unfolded in the past two decades.

At this point, it’s hard to keep track of the many, many scandals the widely reviled billionaire has been at the center of since taking control of the team—another writer attempted to do exactly that in 2010 and was subsequently sued by Snyder—as he’s been at the center of controversies involving sexual harassment, the toxic and abusive work environment he’s been repeatedly accused of fostering, and some shady financial dealings.

Many supporters who haven’t abandoned the Commanders by now have spent years calling for Snyder to sell the team. His fellow owners could theoretically force him to do exactly that, and while fears he could take plenty of other people down with him have been enough to prevent a formal vote, some recent developments suggest it could only be a matter of time until the franchise changes hands.

Commanders fans will likely breathe a massive sigh of relief if a deal is eventually finalized—and there’s at least one player who will likely be in the same camp based on what he had to say about the current situation.

Washington Commanders cornerback Benjamin St-Juste fired a thinly-veiled shot at Dan Snyder while alluding to how he’s impacted the team’s morale

It’s safe to assume there are plenty of people on the Commanders roster who are less than thrilled with Snyder’s pattern of behavior, but it’s fairly easy to understand why they’d be hesitant to be vocal critics of the man who signs their paychecks (one who has a reputation for some incredibly petty vindictiveness).

However, the potential blowback wasn’t enough to prevent Commanders cornerback Benjamin St-Juste from speaking his mind during a recent interview with the French-Canadian outlet Le Journal de Québec.

During the conversation, the Montreal native (who was drafted by the Commanders in 2021) bemoaned the “dark cloud”  that’s been hanging over Washington since he joined the team and endorsed a potential change in ownership that would give players a “fresh start.”

Here’s to hoping we’re not referring to St-Juste as “former Commanders cornerback” by the end of the day.
