Conor McGregor was involved in an ugly incident in an Irish pub when, thanks to security cameras, the UFC star was seen sucker punching an older man back in April who seemed to be minding his own business. The video made the rounds on the Internet, and, for the first time, we’re starting to get details about what exactly happened — with the victim recently opening up about all that went down.

While we heard from the older gentleman who got punched by the force of nature that’s known as Conor McGregor, the UFC star had his turn to speak up. Talking with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion gave an exclusive interview with the host about a number of different topics, including the recent sucker punch incident.

McGregor seemed apologetic, saying this to Helwani:

“I was in the wrong. That man deserved to enjoy his time in the pub without having it end the way it did.”

And take a look at the video below to see part of the segment between Conor McGregor and Ariel Helwani about the unfortunate incident, which occurred back in April of this year, but is just now getting attention.

The interview with Conor McGregor is part of an hour-long, unedited sit down with Helwani that’ll air tonight on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. EST. In addition to the bar incident, McGregor is expected to talk about his latest string of controversies, the injury to his hand, a possible return, Nate Diaz and who he might be fighting next. It’ll be interesting to see what the mercurial fighter has to say, so make sure to tune in later today.

As for the sucker punch, McGregor sounds apologetic, but the guy has been involved in a lot of incidents that have hurt his legacy and image, so who knows if he’ll learn from this one or not.
