The Dallas Cowboys May Have A Major Problem On Their Hands With Superstar RB Ezekiel Elliott

The Dallas Cowboys’ insane list of injury issues in 2022 is no secret. The list began well before the season even started. In fact, it dates all the way back to the end of the 2021 season.

Dallas was without starting wide receiver Michael Gallup to start the season as he recovered from a torn ACL suffered against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 17 of the 2021 season. Then slot receiver James Washington, who the team brought in as a free agent, broke his foot in training camp. Somehow things got even worse when future Hall of Fame left tackle Tyron Smith tore his hamstring prior to the start of the season.

Then the games started, and things only continued to get worse. Star quarterback Dak Prescott broke his thumb in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith’s pseudo-replacement Jason Peters missed time with a chest injury. Tight end Dalton Schultz has been in and out due to a knee injury and starting nickel corner Jourdan Lewis is out for the season after foot season.

But somehow, some way, Dallas is 5-2 and one of the top teams in the NFC. Though the latest injury may just prove to be one too many.

Cowboys Superstar RB Ezekiel Elliott To Miss Time With Torn MCL

Ezekiel Elliott has been a centerpiece of the Dallas offense since the team took him at No. 4 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. He’s made three Pro Bowls and finished third in the AP MVP voting as a rookie.

Lately, Elliott has split time with speedy backup Tony Pollard. But he’s still a key cog for the Cowboys. But now it appears he could be on the shelf for a little while.

Elliott has yet to practice this week after suffering what the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports is a torn MCL and a thigh bruise.

Elliott suffered the injury in Dallas’ 24-6 victory over the Detroit Lions last Sunday. Though the severity of the injury still seems up in the air. The Cowboys face the Chicago Bears on Sunday before a bye week, so the timing could be worse.

But an offense that ranks 22nd in the league with just 19.1 points per game just lost yet another key cog for at least the immediate future.
