UFC president Dana White and the media have never really gotten along. Who is to blame for that depends on who you ask.
One person who did ask is David Senra on his podcast this week. Well, he sort of asked. Dana White stumbled on to the topic when he started talking about infuencers and how “nobody” trusts the media anymore because “they’re all full of s—” and “always lying.”
Dana White’s ‘biggest problem with the media’
“My biggest problem with the media?” Dana White continued. “Who the f— are you and what the f— have you ever done? Nothing. You’re nobody, and you’ve never done anything ever. Nobody’s ever depended on you for a paycheck. Who are you to criticize anybody?
“I was just saying at the press conference in Winnipeg on Saturday, you have all these people on the internet. Talking about what we should be doing with our business. I said, ‘Holy s—, you guys are f—— brilliant. PFL, Bellator, One FC, many, many other failing companies. Why don’t they just f—— hire you guys? You guys have the answers for everything, right?
“I can’t even read this s— because it’s so dumb. And I realize these guys know nothing about this business, yet these are the people that are covering it. It’s fascinating to me that anybody listens to any of these people.”
Of course, Dana White’s criticism is one of the oldest in the book for putting down anyone with an opinion. The argument is that people aren’t allowed to report facts or express an opinion unless they have done exactly what they are reporting.
The “you never played the game, so your opinion isn’t valid” argument is a weak one that has been in sports as long as people have been reporting on them, and it’s nothing more than an attempt to bully the media into not pushing, digging or expressing an opinion.
