David Gabriel Georges supposedly made up his mind on where he wants to play college football. However, the highly-touted running back is not ready to announce his commitment even though it seems like a forgone conclusion.
His uncle (probably) gave it away.
There is no clear timeline for the worst-kept secret in college football to be made public. It would be shocking if Gabriel Georges does not end up in Knoxville but he wants to be clear that his uncle’s words are not his own.
David Gabriel Georges is down to three (really two) schools.
As the No. 2-ranked running back in the recruiting Class of 2027, Gabriel Georges is in high demand. The Canadian ball-carrier burst onto the scene as a sophomore at the Baylor School in Tennessee. His junior campaign was utterly dominant.
David Gabriel Georges ran for 1,756 yards and 27 touchdowns in 2025 with an average of more than 11 yards per carry. He scored the most insane touchdown of the high school football season before it even started and followed it up with one of the toughest runs you will ever see in October.
Much like the NFL, college football programs are not often willing to pay an unproven running back. They typically wait until a player has shown his ability to compete on the next level before they open the checkbook.
That is not the case with Gabriel Georges, who is set to become the highest-paid running back recruit of all-time. His decision is down to Ole Miss, Ohio State and Tennessee. Stranger things have happened but I would be surprised if he chooses the Rebels.
The Volunteers are said to have offered an NIL/revenue share deal worth up to $2 million per year over three years. The Buckeyes might not be willing to match that number but they are not too far behind in terms of compensation. They are battling it out.
What did his uncle say about the college football recruitment?
David Gabriel Georges’ uncle told Steve Wiltfong that his nephew’s mind is already made up. His best relationships are at Tennessee. The Volunteers offered more money. They need him more than the Buckeyes.
“If you compare Ohio State to Tennessee, Ohio State would remain Ohio State. I feel like if you’re a big-time player you can go to a team and they’ll build something around you and they can have their best three years in history. Tennessee may not be Ohio State the next 10 to 15 years, but your three years there could be the best years of Tennessee.“
Although Gabriel Georges’ commitment date is set for July 22, those comments from his uncle seem to say everything that needs to be said. He’s going to Tennessee… or is he?!
Gabriel Georges responded to the chatter on social media. His uncle’s words are not his own.
Maybe this is a smoke screen. Maybe this means he is going to surprise the world and commit to play alongside his high school quarterback at Ole Miss or in Columbus. We don’t know. It feels like the Volunteers are inevitable but the recruit himself is saying that it may not be as simple as we think.
