Doug Gottlieb genuinely believes his college basketball team is on the right track even though Green Bay has not won a single game since the week before Thanksgiving. His latest stunt might be his most embarrassing.
The 49-year-old head coach posted a highlight video just one hour before yet another ugly loss.
Gottlieb was hired in May to coach college basketball despite his lack of any prior experience. The Phoenix won 18 games last season so it’s not like it is impossible to win at Green Bay. However, the program’s record under its new head coach would indicate otherwise. It dropped to 2-24 on Friday.
Before we go any further, Gottlieb would want you to know that his best player has been out since December. He also lost his star transfer after a tense sideline tirade during a loss to a D-II school.
That’s fine, but Green Bay still only won two games with them in the lineup so…
The most recent controversy (for lack of better word) took place last week. Gottlieb, who also hosts a daily three-hour radio show with Fox Sports, missed practice to spend time on Radio Row at the Super Bowl in New Orleans. Both he and athletic director Josh Moon tried to downplay the horrible optics but the Phoenix immediately got blown out, again, in his first game back. Yikes.
Green Bay returned to the court on Friday against a sneaky, but sub-.500 Northern Kentucky squad. Its head coach posted a highlight video on social media at 4:46 p.m. prior to tipoff at 6:00. He called for his team to turn things around — right now. His video featured a handful of good plays from the season.

There is one glaring issue with the bizarre angle of Doug Gottlieb’s video. Only four of the clips in the 90-second video shows the Phoenix with a lead.
To make matters worse, Green Bay lost by 13 just a few hours later. It shot 31 threes and made eight. It shot 24 twos and made nine.
Here is what the head coach had to say:
When Doug Gottlieb said “right now” he obviously didn’t mean right now. He just meant right now eventually.
