The Philadelphia Eagles are rolling. They’re the only undefeated team left in the National Football League since Week 9 and also appear to be the league’s most talented team, too. Jalen Hurts has developed into a franchise quarterback and A.J. Brown has proven to be worth every penny. It’s a hell of a time to be an Eagles fan.

And yet, as a success-starved New York Jets fan, I’ve never been able to quite wrap my head around the team’s decision to fire Doug Pederson, who led the Birds to their first-ever Super Bowl title back in 2018.

Over the years, there has been a litany of reasons as to why the Eagles won the Super Bowl *other* than Doug Pederson: from Carson Wentz’s MVP-caliber play (for about 13 games that season) to Nick Foles’ giant dong to the alleged genius of former offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who then went on to coach the Indianapolis Colts. And one by one, all of those “reasons” have fallen apart.

Nick Foles has been a perenially backup in the years since his Super Bowl triumph while Carson Wentz has gone on to become the league’s most mocked QB. Meanwhile, Frank Reich — a year after betting on Wentz, only to regret his decision less than 12 months later — tied his hopes to a washed-up Matt Ryan and it ultimately cost him his job, as the Colts fired him on Monday, November 7, making him the second NFL coach of the year to be fired after the Panthers canned Matt Rhule.

So, soak it up in the Jacksonville sun, Doug Pederson: your coaching greatness has been vindicated. In fact, it may be time we start saying Pederson led the Eagles to a Super Bowl IN SPITE of Wentz, Foles, and Reich.
