Netflix’s now-famed “Drive to Survive” to series has proven to be a massive hit for the growth of Formula 1 racing across the globe, particularly in the United States.

It found similar success with its “Full Swing” series, which profiles players across the PGA Tour season.

But when the streaming giant opted to combine the two for its first ever live sports event, the Netflix Cup, the results were nothing short of a mess.

The event paired four F1 drivers (Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly) with four PGA Tour players (Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa and Tony Finau) for a match-play-like event.

But the broadcast failed to capture of the magic of TNT’s “The Match.”

Instead, audio issues plagued viewers throughout while hosts Kay Adams, Bert Kreischer and Joel Dahmen often stumbled over one another.

Sainz and Thomas won the event.

But all anyone could talk about afterward was the brutal production value.

The worst sports broadcast of the year goes to NETFLIX. Don’t know what was worse the golf or the production,” @13rg4 tweeted.

Twitter used @Nate_Edwards was a bit more kind in his assessment.

“Netflix isn’t there with production yet. And I really want to love it with some of my favorite golfers and another in the booth with a comedian I’ve seen nearly everything they’ve been in the past couple years. But it’s just a rough time,” he wrote.
Some even had to turn off the event due to the struggles.
“Oh god, not even Carlos Sainz’s gorgeous face and perfect hair could keep me watching the Netflix Cup. I have never appreciated the live sports production teams of literally any other sport more. Ridiculous,” said @mabdacuma.
This likely won’t be Netflix’s final foray into live sports. But if it’s a sign of what’s to come, maybe it should stick to movies and shows.
