Texas Tech defeated Florida during the first game of the college softball Super Regional in Gainesville. NBA legend Jason Williams was escorted out of the stadium after a tense altercation with a fan as his daughter, Mia Williams, made her long-awaited return to her former school.

He was later allowed back in following a conversation with local police and security.

There was always going to be added tension to this college softball Super Regional. Everybody is now on high alert if they weren’t already.

Who is Mia Williams?

As one of the top recruits in the country, Williams spent her freshman and sophomore seasons at the University of Florida. She started all 65 games for the Gators in 2025 and was named as a Second Team All-American with a .335 batting average, 52 runs, 44 RBI and the fifth-most home runs in the SEC.

And then she transferred to Texas Tech during the offseason. Although it is not uncommon for players to bounce around during this current era of collegiate athletics, it was not the most amicable split.

Mia Williams said that she was not happy during her time with the Gators. Her mom openly questioned head coach Tim Walton’s approach to coaching during the 2025 Women’s College World Series.

Williams still has friends on the team but she did not go quietly. A large number of fans did not appreciate how she left.

The Red Raiders did not play Williams’ former team during the regular season. However, Texas Tech paired with Florida for the Super Regional. She made her return to Gainesville on Friday. It was hostile.

Mia Williams is the daughter of Jason ‘White Chocolate’ Williams. Her dad was the No. 7 overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. He played more than a decade in the league and won an NBA title in 2006.

The 50-year-old basketball legend was in attendance at the Super Regional on Friday. He was suddenly escorted out of the stadium by security and local police during the fourth inning.

Williams spoke with the crew that removed him. He claimed that his other daughter, Mia’s sister, was struck by a fan with a handheld fan while the family celebrated one of Mia’s hits. They let him back in. The fan was then asked to leave and complied.

As of this writing, video of the altercation does not exist. We don’t know if the incident went how Williams said, if it was an honest accident or if the fan acted out of malice. It sounds like the police did their due diligence on what happened, surveyed the situation and made their ruling accordingly. Given the hostile nature of Mia’s return, I would not be surprised if the Florida fan threw the handheld fan at her family out of pure rage— and it sounds like that is exactly what happened.
