Gavin Honore is transferring from Bishop Gorman to Mater Dei.
Three-star California high school football player Gavin Honore is transferring back to Mater Dei. He’d left the program in December to attend Bishop Gorman.
The wide receiver was unable to gain approval to suit up for the Gaels in 2026. He will now attempt to punish his old school following the eligibility rejection.
Mater Dei will face Bishop Gorman in the fifth week of the high school football season. Honore hopes to send the Gaels home with a loss.

Honore suited up for Mater Dei his first three seasons, having a breakout sophomore year in 2024. The pass catcher hauled in 23 receptions for 353 yards and six scores. The production helped his team win 13 games and a state title.
It was more of the same last season with Honore finishing third on the team in receiving behind USC signee Kayden Dixon-Wyatt and Ohio State phenom Chris Henry, Jr.
Honore was expected to take over as the No. 1 option as a senior, but soon after his junior year, he opted to transfer to Bishop Gorman.
The Gaels boast a powerhouse program in Las Vegas, a little less than 300 miles away.

Bishop Gorman is the top program in the state of Nevada. It holds a No. 2 national ranking with a roster that includes four-star corners Hayden Stepp (Oregon commit) and Kamil Loud (Cal commit), as well as three-star QB Chance Thomas, who’s headed to Kansas.
Honore was planning to give Thomas a talented target in the passing game. Unfortunately, he was unable to secure his status with the team.
The wideout failed to gain eligibility with the Nevada Interscholastic Athletic Association. As a result, he’s returning to Mater Dei.

Sports Illustrated says there is still paperwork to take care of in order to gain eligibility.
Athletes returning to their original school of previous eligibility without a complete family move of residence, per CIF Southern Section Bylaw 207, are treated as a new transfer and subject to standard transfer rules, which include a potential sit-out period and mandatory clearance by the Southern Section before competing.
Rivals, meanwhile, asserts that he will be immediately eligible to suit up for the Monarchs, who boast a No. 9 national ranking. His presence makes the upcoming matchup between Mater Dei and Bishop Gorman all the more intriguing.
Not only will the game feature two of the country’s top high school football powers, but it will pit one of the nation’s best players against his old school following rejection.
While Bishop Gorman likely did all it could to add the wideout to its roster, Honore might still have a chip on his shoulder come September.
A big game could further boost his recruitment. The receiver, who was previously committed to Georgia, holds offers from every major school in college football.
