Greg McElroy blasted the CFP selection committee following the second edition of playoff rankings. The former Alabama quarterback is looking for consistency from a group that can’t seem to make its mind up.

Though we’re only two weeks into the College Football Playoff standings, the critics have been loud surrounding not only the Top 4 teams, but those still in the hunt, too.

After the initial rankings debuted, fans crushed the committee for not sticking with one top criteria in their analysis.

It’s more of the same in Week 2.

Ohio State is ranked No. 1 given a pair of wins over ranked teams in Penn State and Notre Dame. Resume would seem to be the leading factor in that decision, given everyone on the ESPN panel agreed that they didn’t believe the Buckeyes to actually be the best team in the country.

The committee went away from resume when picking No. 2 and No. 3 though, with Georgia and Michigan having a combined 1 win against current Top 25 competition.

Eye test was used to place both ahead of Florida State, who boasts far more impressive wins against Clemson, Duke, and LSU to this point.

It was more of the same this week, and Greg McElroy called the CFP selection committee out for the most recent list of rankings.

‘Irritating’ CFP committee shows ‘no consistency’ in rankings.

“This committee is irritating me right now,” McElroy said. “Why are we using resume to define Ohio State as No. 1? We’re using eye test to define Georgia and Michigan at No. 2 and No. 3. We’re using resume plus eye test to define Florida State at No. 4… There’s no consistency.”

He also blasted the No. 6, No. 7, and No. 8 order of the rankings, again noting the CFP committee’s inability to focus on a clear-cut criteria.

Oregon comes in ahead of both Alabama and Texas. The Crimson Tide and Longhorns have the most wins in college football against currently ranked teams, but the committee deferred to eye test instead of resume in this case.

This likely wouldn’t be an issue if the committee didn’t put Ohio State at No. 1, but by using resume to define the top team, it doesn’t make a ton of sense to go away from that when convenient.

For what it’s worth, McElroy’s personal CFP rankings looked a lot different than the selection committee’s, mostly because he stuck with eye test as being the leading factory.

  1. Michigan
  2. Georgia
  3. Florida State
  4. Washington
  5. Ohio State
  6. Oregon

We’ll see if things change in next week’s list, but given the consistent inconsistency, we doubt it.
