The entire city Memphis got a win on Saturday. After a tumultuous start to the season, the Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team took down the Houston Cougars and sent shockwaves throughout college basketball.

In the process, they honored the legacy of the late Young Dolph.

Prior to the game, a photo of the world’s worst Houston fan surfaced on Twitter. The man, sporting a truly terrible, unsurprising haircut, held a horrible, off-color, remarkably inappropriate sign.

It said that Young Dolph, who was tragically shot and killed in Memphis while buying his mother some cookies, had a better chance of making new music than the Tigers do of making the NCAA Tournament. It was truly disgusting.

Not long thereafter, Tiger basketball beat writer Jason Munz texted Memphis athletic director Laird Veatch, who texted Houston athletic director Chris Pezman about the sign. It was immediately removed and rightfully so.

Credit to Pezman and the Cougars for getting that right. However, the man with the offensive sign and abhorrent haircut should be banned from all future sporting events.

In the end, the entire city of Memphis got the last laugh.

The Tigers went on to win the game by 10 and upset the No. 6-ranked team in the country on their own floor. In the process, they ended Houston’s 37-game home winning streak.

It was Memphis’ first Top 10 road win since 2005 and the best win of Penny Hardaway’s coaching career. As a result of the win, the Tigers are very much on track to make the NCAA Tournament, despite what the ill-willed, deranged Cougars fan may have said on his disgusting sign.

Dolph was watching over Memphis on Saturday and justice was served. On God.
