Jay Williams Fires Off Scorching Hot Take About Giannis Antetokounmpo And Damian Lillard

The early returns on the partnership between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard are looking pretty good for the Milwaukee Bucks.

So good, even, that ESPN’s Jay Williams is already ready to declare the duo the best in the NBA‘s Eastern Conference.

Lillard put up 39 points in Milwaukee’s opening night victory over the Philadelphia 76ers and, in the process, already showed Williams that he’s more compatible with Antetokoumpo than Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have ever been.

“My biggest take away from this game, in one game…in one game Giannis and Dame were more compatible and have less redundancy than the seven-year career of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum,” Williams said. “More compatible and less redundancy than the seven-year career of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

“They play off each other extremely well. The pieces work. Actually, you know what, you don’t have to build a wall against Giannis anymore because he’s not bringing the ball up the court. Now it’s dame. Now you have Giannis who’s gonna get another seven or eight points on the wing, who can just put his head down and attack.

“You have Brook Lopez who’s trailing. It opens up the offense way more. And, by the way, these two are going to have a lot of field goal attempts. They should! They work well together. And we’ll work on their defense. There are things that they need to get better at. But still, what you saw on the court last night, it fits like Jokic and Murray. It fits like LeBron and AD. It works out.”

Seems brutal but he’s absolutely right,” one fan tweeted.

But Celtics fans weren’t exactly as receptive to the take.

Tatum and Brown have been to the ECF 4 times in the past 5 years and all it takes is the Bucks first game of the season for him to say this, against a team that doesn’t have a 20+ PPG scorer that they beat by 1,” @yikes763 wrote.

Those are certainly some lofty expectations for Dame and Giannis to live up to. But they appear up to the challenge.
