Is Jim Harbaugh coming to the end of his run as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines?

If his new agent is any indication, it appears the answer to that question is “yes.”

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Harbaugh has hired agent Don Yee to represent him. Schefter also reports that Yee represents both Tom Brady and Sean Payton and “has deep NFL ties.”

Harbaugh is in his ninth season coaching his alma mater and reportedly has an extension on the table. But he’s yet to sign that extension and the deal reportedly includes one major catch.

“Sources say Harbaugh, whose current deal runs through 2026, received an offer from Michigan for a 10-year, $125-million contract extension that would make him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football. Yet there is a caveat, and it’s NFL-related,” Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported. “If he signed the deal — which he has not yet done — Harbaugh would agree not to entertain or accept an NFL job for the 2024 season. The NFL clause would be one season only, but that’s apparently been enough to drag out the process.”

Harbaugh, who led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance in 2013, has flirted with a return to the NFL on multiple occasions.

But each time prior he’s opted to forgo a return to the pros to stay at his alma mater. This time around, however, it appears that may not be the case.

Harbaugh and undefeated Wolverines take on 12-1 Alabama on Monday in the Rose Bowl, which serves as a semifinal of the College Football Playoff.
