Legendary New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath is changing his tune about current signal caller Zach Wilson.

After his performances against the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots had Namath calling for Wilson to be cut or traded, his showing against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night has gone Namath — in addition to many other NFL fans — beginning to believe.

In the matchup against the defending Super Bowl champions, Wilson completed 28 of 39 passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns, and most importantly, no interceptions. He did, however, have a crucial fumble in the 4th quarter.

“He played well. He played pretty darn good, and that’s what we want to see. Believe me, I am a Jet fan. I want us to do well. I get fed up when something goes wrong, of course. And I’m tired of losing,” Namath said during an appearance on The Michael Kay Show.

“Zach did some positive things, and we know he has athletic ability. We know he has good feet, and can run around, and we know he has a strong arm. He showed it [Sunday]. But it’s the mistakes that hurt us a bit.”

Not only did Wilson play the best game of his NFL career against the Chiefs, but he also became the first quarterback to ever outplay Patrick Mahomes in the latter’s 127 starts across college and the pros.

This weekend, not only will Zach Wilson have a chance to build on his career-best outing against Kansas City, but he’ll be doing so against the Denver Broncos, who have the worst defense in the National Football League after giving up 150 points in the first four games.

With the Jets now sitting at 1-3, the pressure will be on this weekend to get a win on the board so they can keep pace in the AFC. There’s also the fact that Aaron Rodgers has recently stated his intention of trying to return to the field this season.
