Jon Rahm is the No. 1 player in the world, he’s not supposed to miss putts inside three feet, let alone 10-inches, but that’s exactly what he did during Thursday’s opening round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

On the Par 3 7th, Rahm walked up to his ball to convert his tap-in par, but ultimately didn’t even hit the hole with the 10-inch putt. In fact, the Spaniard didn’t even get the ball to the hole, which is honestly hard to do from that distance.

Rahm didn’t let the short miss get to him as he ultimately closed out his round at even par on the day. Nevertheless, everyone wanted to know what exactly happened during his short miss.

According to Rahm, the miss came after a combination of sweaty hands and just not feeling comfortable over the ball.

“I wish I could give you all the excuses in the world, but no, it’s as simple as, it just didn’t feel good in my hands, and I tried to stop, and I didn’t. It was very odd,” Rahm told the media after his opening round.

“It just sucks to give that one away,” he continued. “I tried to stop it. It didn’t sit well in my hands. I was a little sweaty.”

Credit to Rahm for not bursting into flames after the missed putt, most other golfers absolutely would have.

What we can all learn here is that next time you miss a putt from inside one foot, you can say your hands were sweaty and people won’t give you too much shtick about it.
