The Bleacher Bums at Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs are some of the most notorious fans in all of sports. The name comes from the fact that, back when the Cubs didn’t play any home night games, the kind of people who could show up day after day to sit in the outfield bleachers surely couldn’t be gainfully employed, thus, they were bums.

And, they’ve traditionally annoyed and harassed opposing outfielders, a tradition in the Wrigley Field bleachers that dates back decades. Some of the greatest players in MLB history, such as Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds, and Ken Griffey Jr., have been harassed by the Bleacher Bombs.

And, while St. Louis Cardinals promising young player Jordan Walker has a ways to go to be as good as those guys, he has a very promising future. The 21-year-old corner outfielder is showing flashes of stardom in his rookie year, as his OPS is a better-than-average .794 and his OPS+ is a well-above-averaage number. But, he got a rude awakening to what his future could look like if he has a long career with the Cubs’ NL Central rivals. Suffice it to say, he’s not a fan of the bleacher bums after Thursday’s 7-2 win.

Here’s the problem with him saying this. They’re going to be much more fired up in Friday’s game between the two teams. He’s dug himself a hole with the Wrigley Field faithful here.
