Jose Trevino was traded from the Yankees to the Reds last December ending a three-year stint with the organization. He faced off against his old squad for the first time this week and reminded his former teammates of that past.
The slugger hilariously swiped his Yankees players’ intro music and made it his own. It led to a comical interaction in Cincinnati.
Trevino was a solid contributor for New York, landing a Gold Glove and All-Star invite in 2022. Across three seasons, he hit .230 with 23 home runs and 86 RBIs.
He was dealt to the Reds last offseason in a trade that sent Fernando Cruz and Alex Jackson to the Big Apple. With his new squad, he’s gotten off to a solid start.
The catcher is hitting .306 with four homers through 49 appearances. He’s provided the team with solid defense behind the plate, too, helping Cincinnati to a 42-38 start.
On Monday, he took his first at-bat against his former team. He walked up to the dish as “Hello” by Pop Smoke blared across the stadium speakers. That happens to be Aaron Judge’s walk-up theme.
It was more of the same in Game 2 on Tuesday as he prepped to face pitcher Carlos Rodon. “Rooster” by Alice in Chains was the tune of choice on that occasion, Rodon’s intro music when playing in Yankee Stadium.

The songs got a reaction from New York players in both instances. Rodon’s reaction, in particular, was fun to watch.
The music choice seemed to spark a fire under Jose Trevino, who hit 2-for-8 with a run and RBI in those first two matchups. Cincinnati won both games to take the series.
The two foes will meet again on Wednesday. We’ll see if the trend continues!
