LeBron James is going viral for a hilarious comparison between the Steelers and Lakers. While discussing the Los Angeles season thus far, he referenced Pittsburgh.

Unfortunately, his poor wording on the analogy has led the sports world to troll.

James has been much more vocal about his NFL fandom this year, recently deciding to post his weekly predictions on the pro football slate. This week got off to a rough start as he picked the Titans to upset the Steelers on Thursday night.

The Steelers would win the game, 20-16, despite being outgained by Tennessee on the field. That’s been a theme in Pittsburgh’s season thus far.

The offense has been far from potent, but a stout defense and timely scores have the team sitting at 5-3 through eight games.

In fact, Pittsburgh became the first team in NFL history to post a winning record despite being outgained in each of their first eight contests. LeBron James tried to compare the Steelers’ start to that of the Lakers, who are 3-3 this season despite having been outscored to this point.

His attempt failed miserably.

“We’re like the Pittsburgh Steelers right now,” James said. “The Pittsburgh Steelers right now have not outgained or outscored any of their opponents this season and yet they’ve got a winning record.”

Los Angeles has won three close games while seeing a pair of double-digit blowouts. The comments game following a 19-point loss to the Magic on Saturday.

But saying the Steelers are 5-3 while not having outscored a single opponent isn’t just ridiculous, it’s impossible.

Fans immediately ran with the poorly worded comparison.

“Bro don’t know any football.”

“Yeh they’ve not outgained anyone, but they’ve outscored five of their opponents. They’re 5-3.”

“Bron places a few NFL bets and thinks he’s a guru.”

“‘They haven’t outscored any opponent this season, but have a winning record…’ I didn’t know that was possible.”

Most got his point. As the reporter that asked the question noted, the Lakers have trailed by double figures in all but one game thus far. Still, they’ve stuck around to win three of six contests.

Likewise, Pittsburgh has been outgained by every opponent, and their season point differential sits at -30, yet they are 5-3.

We’ll see if the trend continues on both sides as the seasons progress.
