Le’Ron McClain was a two-time Pro Bowl fullback during his seven NFL seasons, but, since retiring from the sport in 2013, it seems as if he’s already experiencing some disheartening side effects to his previous profession. With the amount of impact his head and body were forced to withstand, he’s pleading for help from the NFL given his state of mind is in a terrifying place.
In a series tweets sent by McClain over the weekend, the former player detailed all the scary thoughts that are going on in his mind, even going as far as saying that he has to “get my head checked.” Take a look below at the cry for help from Le’Ron McClain to the NFL.

Wow. This is more than just powerful stuff, but it’s heartbreaking, too, as the 34-year-old Le’Ron McClain seems to be fighting every single day just to stay alive following the amount of damage his head has taken over the years.
There is potential good news for McClain to get help, as former players settled with the NFL to provide support for ex-players who are dealing with the lasting impact of head trauma.
Per the Concussion Settlement Website:
Retired NFL Football Players received head trauma or injuries during their NFL Football careers, which caused or may cause them long-term neurological problems. They accused the NFL Parties of being aware of the evidence and the risks associated with repetitive traumatic brain injuries, but failing to warn and protect players against those long-term risks and ignoring and concealing this information from players.”
It’s unsure if Le’Ron McClain is part of that settlement or not, but, if he is included, a settlement report shows that, as of July 1, claimants received an average of $564,447 per claim, with 915 claims netting $516,469,342. These were claims stemming from issues that include cases of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
While I don’t want to make this about Andrew Luck, considering the soon-to-be 30-year-old just walked away from the Indianapolis Colts after citing mental and physical pain, the former No. 1 overall pick should be commended for listening to his body and mind, rather than continue to put himself through the grind. Unfortunately, Le’Ron McClain wasn’t as lucky, and now we’re seeing some of the possible side effects of so many blunt hits to the head again and again.

Here’s to hoping the NFL helps take care of McClain and he gets the care he needs. While an injury to an ankle, back, knee or shoulder can recover, when it’s the mind, people aren’t so lucky — which is why the tweets from the former fullback above are so devastating to see.
