Levi Williams is going out on top. The Utah State passer posted an incredible performance in his lone start of the season, leading the Aggies to a double overtime win over New Mexico.

With the victory, USU gained bowl eligibility.

Williams landed Mountain West Player of the Week honors for his performance in which he totaled more than 350 yards of offense. That included 198 yards through the air, plus a pair of touchdowns, and another 153 yards on the ground. He found the endzone three times with his feet.

His final rushing touchdown proved to be the game-winner helping the Ags walk away with a 44-41 win. Williams was carried off the field by his teammates following the heroics.

It was the quarterback’s only start as an Aggie, and it could very well be his last. He’s opted to forfeit his final season of eligibility in order to begin Navy SEAL training.

Williams is foregoing potential ‘Big Man on Campus’ status for a chance to defend his country.

Here’s more from KSL Sports:

Rather than return for his senior season, the tall Texan will be preparing for a different battlefield.

Williams spoke with KSL Sports Zone’s Hans & Scotty about his decision to trade fall camp for Hell week following the season.

“I love football and it’s so great,” Williams told KSL. “But I knew that, eventually, it was going to come to an end… I just want to be in a spot where I can protect this great country where we get to play football with the freedom to do that.”

Williams’ family has a history of service, including his mother who was in the Army.

He’s looking to continue the tradition, though it comes at the expense of his final NCAA season. With that being said, Williams will now end his Utah State career with a spotless regular season record.

The Aggies now await their bowl fate after finishing the year at 6-6.
