As the 2024-25 women’s college basketball season gets underway, Louisville has the most nostalgic roster in the country for fans of the NBA. The daughters of two former All-Stars enrolled with the program over the summer as freshmen.
Anyone who watched professional hoops from 2001 to 2019 will feel extremely old!
Louisville is ranked No. 17. The Cardinals are expected to be an NCAA Tournament team again this year. Both of their high-profile freshman will play important roles off of the bench.
Mackenly Randolph was a five-star prospect. At 6-foot-0, she was ranked as the No. 23 player in the recruiting Class of 2024. Her father is Zach Randolph.
Z-Bo, now 43 years old, played 19 seasons in the NBA. He was drafted with the 19th overall pick by the Portland Trailblazers in 2001 and spent the majority of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies, where his number is retired.
Randolph scored 18,578 points with 10,208 rebounds and 2,049 assists before retiring in 2019. Very few players in history were ever as dominant in the low post.
Zach’s daughter, Mackenly Randolph, will play alongside Izela Arenas.
The 5-foot-9 guard was considered a four-star recruit as the No. 88 player in the Class of 2024. Her father is Gilbert Arenas.
Agent Zero, now 42 years old, was also drafted in 2001 like his daughter’s new teammate’s father. Arenas played 12 years in the NBA with the Warriors, Wizards and Magic. He also played alongside Randolph with the Grizzlies in 2012 before going overseas to play in China.
Arenas finished his career with 11,402 points, 2,168 rebounds and 2,909 assists.
12 years after Zach Randolph and Gilbert Arenas linked up in Memphis, their daughters are on the same team. Louisville is a must-watch college basketball program for NBA fans!
