After one of the most exciting offseasons you’ll see for a baseball club, the New York Mets have essentially fallen flat on their faces.

They are currently under .500 and are 17 games back from first place in the NL East.

That’s not really what owner Steve Cohen was expecting after dropping major cash in the offseason to form the best roster possible.

The Mets have the highest payroll in the league this season, and yet, they find themselves struggling to remain relevant in the race for the playoffs.

For that reason, owner Steve Cohen made some head-turning comments about what the franchise might have to do if the team doesn’t turn things around.

According to Front Office Sports, Cohen is frustrated with how the 2023 season is playing out. So much so, that he’s seriously considering making some moves at the trade deadline in hopes to improve the Mets’ chances.

“It’s been incredibly frustrating. If we don’t get better, we have decisions to make at the trade deadline. It’s on the players.”

If that’s the case, then New York is certainly a team to keep an eye on. Cohen has been incredibly aggressive lately, as he wants to bring a World Series to a New York team that’s not called the Yankees.

However, if the Mets plan to be active at the trade deadline, it could prove to be difficult.

Front Office Sports also reports that “six of the team’s seven highest-paid players have various forms of no-trade protection.”

That makes things a bit difficult if the Mets plan to deal away some of their top talent at the trade deadline.

With that said, New York is certainly a team to keep an eye on. The MLB trade deadline is August 1. So, the Mets do have a little time to turn things around.

Look for this team to try and get back on track on Friday. They’re scheduled to take on the San Francisco Giants in a three-game series.
