The world of NASCAR and motorsports as a whole is in mourning after the stunning news of the abrupt passing of two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch at 41 years old.

Busch, who was still currently active in the series for Richard Childress Racing, was recently admitted to the hospital, and his representation put out a statement on Thursday morning that he would not compete at this weekend’s Coke 600.

“Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization,” the statement began. “He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”

However, just hours later, NASCAR announced on social media that Busch had passed away.
