The world of NASCAR and motorsports as a whole is in mourning after the stunning news of the abrupt passing of two-time Cup Series champion Kyle Busch at 41 years old.
Busch, who was still currently active in the series for Richard Childress Racing, was recently admitted to the hospital, and his representation put out a statement on Thursday morning that he would not compete at this weekend’s Coke 600.
“Kyle has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization,” the statement began. “He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”
However, just hours later, NASCAR announced on social media that Busch had passed away.
NASCAR Statement Addresses Tragic Death Of Kyle Busch
Shortly after, NASCAR and Busch’s family put out a joint statement addressing the news.
“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch,” the statement reads. “A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation. He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled, and he cared deeply about the sport and fans.
“…During this incredibly difficult time, we ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy and continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Further updates will be shared as appropriate.”
At the moment, no cause of death has been announced. But the NASCAR world was left in shock by the news.

There aren’t really words for today. I’ve raced against Kyle for a long time, and anyone who’s lined up next to him knows exactly what made him special, he gave you everything he had, every single lap, and he made all of us better for it.
But more than the wins and the records,… https://t.co/hLS9vioUyN
