With Josh McDaniels heading to the Las Vegas Raiders, the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator position is open for the first time in a decade. The Pats have recently been linked to Bill O’Brien to fill the vacancy.

O’Brien had served as the head coach and GM of the Houston Texans just a few years ago before his tenure ended in disaster. Since then, he served as the OC for Alabama as they worked their way to a national title game appearance.

Now, it appears the Pats have added another disappointing former NFL head coach to their list of candidates. According to NFL Insider Mike Giardi, the New England Patriots are now considering Adam Gase for the vacant offensive coordinator position.

Adam Gase had a successful first year as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, but failed to even reach .500 as he squandered plenty of talent on his rosters for the next two seasons. After the Dolphins fired him, the New York Jets surprised everybody by giving him another shot.

It didn’t go well. They went 7-9 in his first year before a miserable 2-14 season led to another firing.

At this point in his career, he is best know as the “Good Luck Chuck” of the NFL. As soon as a player or team gets away from him, they immediately improve.

Before his time as a head coach, Gase spent a few years as an offensive coordinator, first for the Broncos and then for the Bears. He was not as bad in that role as he was as a head coach.

Maybe Bill Belichick thinks he can be the one to finally turn Gase into a winner with the New England Patriots.
