In an effort to combat the recent rise in gambling amongst NFL players, the league has unveiled an updated NFL’s Player Gambling Policy.
As shared by NFL Executive VP of Communications and Player Health and Safety Jeff Miller (that’s a real mouthful of a title you’ve got there, Jeff), NFL players now have six key rules they must follow in order to avoid violating the league’s gambling policy.
Here are those six rules, according to the National Football League:
- Don’t bet on the NFL
- Don’t gamble at your team facility, while traveling for a road game, or staying at a team hotel
- Don’t have someone bet for you
- Don’t share team ‘inside information
- Don’t enter a sportsbook during the NFL playing season
- Don’t play daily fantasy football

The NFL has rolled out these six, easy-to-understand rules following a recent wave of investigations into and suspensions of players for violating the league’s gambling policy. Most notably, wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended for a year, while multiple members of Dan Campbell’s Detroit Lions were also handed various suspensions.
Furthermore, earlier this week there were reports that one NFL player apparently lost $8 million from gambling last year.
The NFL, of course, currently has three official sportsbook partners: Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel. There are also various sportsbooks that have partnerships with individual teams, such as: Bally Bet, Betfred, BetRivers, BetMGM, FOX Bet, Fubo Sportsbook, Hard Rock Sportsbook, PointsBet, Unibet, and WynnBET.
Speaking of betting, heading into the 2023 season, Patrick Mahomes and the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs are currently the favorites to win next season’s Super Bowl, which would make them the first back-to-back champs in the NFL since the New England Patriots pulled it off back in 2004 and 2005.
