The morning heat in Florida got to North Alabama pitcher Anthony Pingeton early in an ASUN Baseball Tournament matchup vs. Jacksonville. The starter was seen vomiting on the mound in the bottom of the first inning.
He not only recovered to stay in the game, but he then regathered himself to strikeout a batter on the next pitch. And he fittingly did so with a disgusting breaking ball!
The Lions played the Dolphins in postseason play to open the first round of conference tournament action. North Alabama entered as a three seed in the unique bracket setup after a 16-14 finish in league play. Jacksonville came in as a two-seed after tying for second in the regular season standings.
It was the first meeting on the year between the rivals. Pingeton got the nod as he looked to power his team to a win. Things, unfortunately, got off to a rocky start.
Pingeton gave up a leadoff home run to Jaden Bastian on his third pitch of the game. Jacksonville grabbed an early 1-0 lead on the bomb to strike first.

Things then went from bad to worse for the right-handed senior. While he wouldn’t allow another baserunner in that first frame, he would go viral before inning’s end.

Pingeton got sick in the middle of a Blake DeLamielleure at-bat. With the count at 1-2 in the pitcher’s advantage, players had to take a brief pause in the action.
Pingeton hurled behind the mound before he could deliver another strike to the hitter. In his defense, it was nearing 85 degrees at the time of first pitch in DeLand, Florida. The humidity made it feel hotter.
The pitcher didn’t let it affect his performance, however. One pitch after emptying his stomach on the infield grass, he turned around and struck DeLamielleure out with a vomit-inducing breaking ball.

Anthony Pingeton completed four innings of work, allowing only that leadoff homer. He surrendered just three hits while striking out three Dolphins hitters.
North Alabama wouldn’t be able to get him a win in the ASUN Baseball Tournament, though. The Lions fell, 5-1, and will now be forced into an elimination game.
