New Theory Suggests Oakland Athletics Are Punishing Top Players For Anti-Ownership Wristband

Not only are the Oakland A’s absolutely terrible, the Major League Baseball organization continues to make mind-boggling roster decisions without any tangible rhyme or reason. They are incompetent.

However, a new conspiracy theory deemed ‘#WristbandGate’ might be the explanation!

Last Dive Bar is an online merchandise store that describes itself as the “premier online store for unique and stylish apparel that celebrates the iconic Oakland Coliseum.’ Of course, the Coliseum will soon sit vacant when the Athletics move to Las Vegas. It is a dying venue that everybody is sad to see go.

That disappointment is a central theme when you look at the Last Dive Bar website. Many of the shirts, hoodies, etc. express disproval with the move and feature anti-ownership slogans like ‘Boycott’ or ‘Sell The Team.’ One especially creative design plays off of Disney and features owner John Fisher playing with a puppet that looks like president Dave Kaval. In addition, the company hosts a yearly ‘Fan Fest’ that is anti-ownership.

Now that you’re familiar with Last Dive Bar, let’s dive into the (well-supported) theory!

Four different A’s players wore wristbands in support of Last Dive Bar this season. All four players were part of confusing roster moves not long thereafter.

Promising young outfielder Cristian Pache wore a wristband last year. He was shipped off to Philadelphia.

Designated hitter Brent Rooker (the team’s only All-Star last year) wore a wristband on his right arm. He was benched after a slow start to the 2024 season.

James Kaprielian was a starting pitcher for Oakland last year and wore a wristband. He was released.

And then there is Esteury Ruiz. This is the most baffling move.

His Last Dive Bar “bracelet” was called out on a television broadcast during Spring Training.

Ruiz is the brightest star on a very bad MLB team. The 25-year-old centerfielder hit .254 with 67 stolen bases and 47 RBIs last year. He was batting .429 through his first eight plate appearances this year.

There is literally no reason not to have him in the lineup. The Oakland A’s are terrible and have nothing to lose.

And yet, Ruiz was demoted to the Triple-A level after three games.

Coincidence? You be the judge! #WristbandGate is real.
